"How lucky I am to have things making say goodbye so hard."

(Arthur Schnitzler)

It is the same every year: on New Years Eve, there's this special and intense sentimentality that overcomes me.

And it's not even that I think about every special moment of 2012, no, it's a general and overall melancholy because of the end. Or maybe the goodbye.

But maybe it's not only the goodbye. Maybe it's also the excitement about something new to begin. But is it really something new? Can something new begin on a determined date? Or at the same date for every person in the world?

Someone begins a new job in February. A new relationship in May. A new friendship in August. A house moving in September.
And you also can start to attend a fitness center in March. Stop smoking in July. Or eating less in October. (Okay, that is maybe not the perfect time for eating less)

Maybe the sentimentality comes from the knowledge about the disappointment (most of us already took part in a few turns of years). Because the new will not arrive apparently, at least not on 1st January. The only immediate new thing will be one little number out of eight in the corners of our mobiles, laptops and TVs.

However, you still are exicted and looking forward to the NEW, maybe exciting, things the NEW year "has" to bring, year by year. And you should keep that excitement AND the sentimentality of New Years Eve, because the new year will bring new, exciting, unknown, adventurous, great moments, but probably not on 1st January.
And even if you won't have every of these moment on mind on 31st December 2013 you will be sentimental, again.
Because "a goodbye always hurts, even if you are looking forward to it for a long time." (Arthur Schnitzler)
